Batanga Blues

By Kanute Tangwa aka K(C)anute Tangwa

Before the incessant tidal whoosh/

Stands defiantly a lone sturdy mesh/

– on the pristine sands of the Batanga

A rugged lattice/

Standing between jengu and mortals/

– bearing testimony to the deportation
– bearing witness to the annual mayi

A thickset web/

– flaunting its dark dank bottom
– stretching and fanning out its jagged lianas in twilight embrace

Buffeted over time by gust and tempest/

Licked in time by the briny atlantic/

Pricked and pierced with saline ferocity/

Leaving an intricate motif/

– making an Alphadi to grin
– spurring an Eko to echo its worth in a voice like no other in sweet sassy mellifluous batanga melody

Leaving a tangled tapestry of liana/

– unraveling tangled mermiad tales
– untangling mamie wata anecdotes buried in its gloomy damp bosom

Kneaded in time and geography by miengu/
