In the recesses of time/
A voice was heard in Rama/
Rahel weeping and mourning her children/
In an octennial of recent times/
– 2016- 2023
A cry was heard in nooné/
Fombuen/
. Moaning
. Wrenching
. Groaning
Blocking a comatose kwifon/
For her children do not heed to the djang waï/
prompting the fon to take flight/
For her children have exchanged the mfuh for the kalash/
– values for dishonour
– machetes for IEDs
– nkeng for violence
– poverty for ransom
– ubuntu for cupidity
– nwerong for revolutionary soundbites
– anlu for its pale copy
– takumbeng for its drab copy
– ndap ngong for sunday prophesies
For her children are caught up in a lurid dance/
– with drummers and conductors on keyboards
A lament was heard in Garbu/
Mpodol/
weeping and mourning/
for a dream gone awry.
