WHEN A DAD WEEPS

By Kanute Tangwa aka K(C)anute Tangwa

skey daddy…

haunting mellifluous afro soul lyrics/
harping on what obtains but difficult to acknowledge/
for we do not see it in the square/
but locked in the depths of scared souls/
buffeted by drudgery and uncertain morrow/
yielding place to soul solitude.

motema na ngai
dad is lonely

walking and sitting alone in own thoughts/
dad weeps

tears of pain flowing and searing a heart/
an undaunted heart/
though taken for granted/
for they have eyes/
…they have ears/
but can’t decipher the souvenirs/
flowing in overlapping waves and torrents/
thinking of bread on the table/
….of bills on the table/
….of his kindred
for school resumption knocks/
knocking him off his chair.

motema na ngai
dad weeps

tears dripping on a heart etched by history/
reminiscing high and low moments/
but with the ability to crack a smile/
feigning; it is all right/
saying the prayer within/
…do not forsake me!
for all eyes are on him.
